Play Quicktime Files without installing Quicktime

Monday, August 20th, 2007

I’ve had enough of installing crappy apple software on my machine. I just took the plunge by installing Windows Vista 64bit edition. On a sidenote, I got a legit copy through my Microsoft Actionpack subscription.

Windows Media player is way better then Quicktime for several reason:

  1. Not nearly as bloated.
  2. Loads faster
  3. Plays video full Screen for free. If you want to play quicktime files fullscreen you have to buy Quicktime Pro.

In my searching I found a plugin called Quicktime Alternative plugin.  I can install this on any system. I have tried it on Windows XP, Vista 32bit & now Vista 64Bit. Once you install this codec into your system pretty much any program that understands video can now play quicktime files. :)

FTP Inside Firefox

Friday, November 10th, 2006

Here’s a nifty little add-on for Firefox. The developer is giving it away for free but if you want to donate some money to him 1/2 goes to him and the other 1/2 goes to help orphans. Seems like a pretty cool idea. In order to use this firefox add-on you must go to the menu Tools - FireFTP. Once done a FTP client will open up in Firefox. You must create a site and away you go! It’s very easy to use. Some people have complained about it’s speed. I for one have not noticed this at all. Considering the size of download, ease of use I’d say this is a must have!

You can get FireFTP Here.

Free Office Program

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

Well here’s a great tool you can download. It looks and feels very much like the whole MSOffice Suite. Over 95% of it’s features are located in this program. A nice added bonus that Office 2003 doesn’t have out of the box is the ability to save it’s files as acrobat reader files. (Yes you can even insert hyper links into them unlike other programs like PDFcreator)

Great FTP program

I recommend “Filezilla” if you need to do any FTPing. It’s small, fast and free! :) Can’t get much better then that combo. In fact… I’d called it a supersized combo ;)
